GB Bradford Jiu-Jitsu Wins 8 Medals at CompNet Regional
By John Toothill | July 8, 2024
Sunday the 30th of June 2024 saw us take a small team down to Wolverhampton for the CompNet Regional tournament.
The team came away with 3 golds, and 5 silvers.
Our youngest competitor, 7-year-old White belt Albie Gray, kicked off the day with two submission victories on route to a silver medal.
Next up was our 1st Gold medal of the day when 15-year-old Yellow Belt Owain Humphreys triumphed, winning both his matches, including one via a choke in the first 20 seconds of the match.
Our 1st of two female competitors was Jessica Keating, a 13-year-old white belt who won her 1stmatch on route to a silver medal finish. Also picking up a silver medal was 14-year-old Grey belt Chelsea Gordon, losing out in the final on points in a very close technical match.
14-year-old yellow belt Eesa Rehman took gold, winning his category with 2 submissions. Eesa then stepped up in weight and belt in the absolute category, where he added another medal, this time silver.
One of the standout performances of the day was 16-year-old Blue belt Reuben McLoughlin, narrowly missing out on gold in the dying seconds against one of the most decorated juvenile grapplers in the UK. A remarkable effort, one that made a lot of people stand up and take note.
Last but not least was 9-year-old Zac Toothill aka @Zacfights. Zac is one of a number of Gracie Barra ambassadors (Nationally sponsored athletes) who train out of GB Bradford. Zac stepped up several age and weight divisions, securing a gold medal via his trademark arm bar submission.
The team will take a much fuller roster down to the world championships in less than 10 days time. Hoping to come away with the Team trophy yet again, as well as several new and defending world champions.
